Under the expertise and able leadership of the principal, Fr. Anthony Fonseca, the Trilingual Elocution Competition held on 18th September 2023, at Don Bosco High School and Junior College, Naigaon, was a resounding success in achieving its objectives of improving communication skills, instilling confidence and developing public speaking skills among the students. This novel event was introduced, strategized and implemented effectively by the principal, Fr. Anthony Fonseca, who shaped a motivational climate among the staff and students in preparation for the competition.

Around 54 students from the Secondary Section and 30 students from the Primary Section actively participated in this long-awaited event. Each participant exhibited remarkable confidence and articulacy, making the competition a true celebration of young, powerful voices. The competition was conducted standard-wise, wherein three participants from each division, (and a total of nine participants from each standard)competed with each other in three different languages with different topics, trained by their subject teachers. The competition was honored by an esteemed jury; people who brought their knowledge and experience to evaluate the presentations of the participants. Their accurate insights and constructive suggestions greatly influenced the growth and development of the participants, encouraging them to further perfect their speaking skills. One of the judges: Mrs. Sweedle Colaca, English teacher of St. Augustine High School, commented, “I was very impressed by the qualityand diversity of speeches. The speeches were impeccable and the students were all so well prepared as they spoke with striking eloquence. I will surely take this concept to my school and conduct a similar event.”

The parents of the participants were invited and this boosted the confidence of the young speakers. The Rector, Fr. Dominic Martis, being very much impressed by the showcase of talents in all the three languages, complimented the students saying, “In a country like India, that has so much diversity, this is indeed a much-required platform wherein even youngsters should have the opportunity to voice and express their feelings. India is a democratic country with diverse religions, cultures and languages; hence competitions of such kind will help to promote, enhance and uphold the values of democracy.”

The principal, Fr. Anthony Fonseca, thoroughly appreciated theefforts of the teachers in training the students and thanked them for training the students so well.He complimented the students for their eloquent delivery of speeches. He said, “It was good to see the students so confident and composed on the stage, with a variety of speeches on different topics and in different languages. I can see future orators in each of you my dear students. Well done!”

The winners were announced and the program ended on a very fulfilling and well accomplished note. The Tri-lingual Elocution Competition has indeed provided a platform for our students not only to express themselves but also to develop essential skills that will undoubtedly benefit them in their academic and future endeavors.
