23RD ANNUAL SPORTS DAY AT DON BOSCO’S NAIGAON
The much-awaited Sports Day was hosted on 16th and 17th December, 2022 for the different sections of Don Bosco High School and Jr. College Naigaon. This year marked the 23rd Annual Sports Day of the school and as such, the celebrations were held with grandeur to suit the occasion, integrating the theme, “BE PEACEMAKERS”
The event on both days began impressively with the fanfare and marchpast of the four houses, a peace float by the primary and a peace walk by the tiny tots of the pre-primary. The chief guest on 16th December, Mr. Manogaran Pillai , a well-known sportsman, and on 17th December, Rev. Fr. William Falcao, sdb, the first principal and pioneer of Don Bosco High School Naigaon, inaugurated the event and declared the sports meet open. Amazed at the progress, achievements and contribution to the field of sports Fr. William Falcao said, “Sports at school level is not about competition. It is about having fun, being physically active, learning the sport and building coordination and so, to give you an opportunity to display your confidence, patience, zeal and sportsmanship. I am proud of the achievements of the school.” The rector, Rev. Dominic Martis, welcomed the huge gathering and encouraged the students saying, “Success is a result of repeated failures and just one constant element called – determination. Whether you have won a medal or not, you are all winners.”
Several events were conducted and students showcased a great sense of discipline and mastery of skills achieved through weeks of hard work. The principal, Rev. Fr. Anthony Fonseca, congratulated and thanked the staff for working meticulously for the event. He addressed the audience saying, “Sports engender purposeful and meaningful relationships. These relationships provide you highly desirable security, belongingness, and ultimately happiness. Therefore, winning or losing in sports is not at all important, but the happiness originating from the participation in sports is a highly cherished trophy.”
The highlight of the day was the track and field events which saw emerging talent sweep the winning trophies. The excitement built up and screams and cheering of the audience grew more frenzied as the relay race between the four houses and the tug-of-war began. The participants were encouraged and cheered throughout by a well-disciplined audience of students and parents. The tug-of-war between the parents and teachers was yet another excitement that left the audience of students baffled, wondering whom to cheer.
The culmination of the day witnessed loud cheers during the prize distribution ceremony at the hands of the Chief Guest and members of the School Management. The day ended on a high note with a look of accomplishment and pride on the faces of the management, students and staff.
