The Under 17 girl’s football team representing Don Bosco High School Naigaon, enthusiastically showcased their skills at the Subroto Mukherjee Football Tournament, held at Viva College, Virar, on July 8, 2024. Their spirited performance earned them the third position in the tournament.
The Subroto Mukherjee Football Tournament is a prestigious event that attracts schools from across Palghar District, aiming to promote football and encourage young talent in the sport. This year’s tournament featured intense competition and showcased the determination and sportsmanship of all participating teams. Our under-17 girls’ team exhibited exceptional talent and teamwork throughout the tournament, demonstrating their skills in each match they played.
Key Matches:
The team received a bye in the first match. In their second match, our team secured a hard-fought victory with a score of 1-0. The match highlighted our team’s defensive resilience and effective goal-scoring capabilities. The semi-final match against Ryan International was a closely contested affair, with both teams displaying skilful play and determination. After a thrilling encounter, the match ended in a draw, leading to a penalty shootout. Unfortunately, our team narrowly lost in the penalty shootout with a score of 3-4, despite their valiant efforts. Following the semi-final disappointment, our team regrouped and prepared for the match against Expert School to determine the third position. The match was intense and competitive, with both teams vying for victory. Our girls showed great resilience and determination, ultimately securing a convincing win to clinch the third place in the tournament.
The third-place achievement reflects the diligent efforts, commitment, and skills of our girls’ football team, as well as the steadfast support and motivation provided by our vice-principal, Fr. Joaquim Fernandes, who supervises all school extracurricular activities. Their performance throughout the tournament earned them praise from spectators and organizers alike, highlighting their commitment to excellence in sports.
The principal, Fr. Anthony Fonseca, congratulated the team and the expressed his gratitude the coaches who contributed to the team’s success through their guidance and encouragement. He said, “The third-place finish is a source of pride for our school community and reflects our commitment to nurturing sportsmanship and athletic achievement among our students.”
All in all, our school’s Under 17 girls’ football team’s participation in the Subroto Mukherjee Football Tournament was marked by impressive performances and a strong team spirit.
