REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATION

It wasn’t until January 26, 1950, that the Indian Constitution came into effect, and India became a sovereign state, declaring it a republic. The 74th Republic Day of India was celebrated in school with great zeal and a patriotic spirit.
The members of the management, staff and students witnessed the program which commenced at 7.30am with the chief guest, Fr. Diego Nunes, Provincial Delegate of the Salesian Family – Mumbai Province, unfurling the National flag.

The patriotic aura was sustained by the performances of the energetic and enthusiastic students of the Primary, Secondary and College Section. Each section paid their tribute to the martyrs and provided a glimpse into the diversity of India through their performance in dance, songs and speeches. The Chief Guest, Fr. Diego Nunes, began his motivating and inspiring speech with a familiar Bollywood tune singing, “Mera joota hai Japani, Yeh Patloon Englistani, sar pe lal topi Rusi , phir bhi dil hai Hindustani,” reiterating the sentiment of Indianness and patriotism and pointing out to the fact that despite donning clothes and accessories that are from across the globe, our hearts remains Indian.

The Rector, Fr. Dominic Martis, greeted each one. He urged the students to serve their motherland with love by helping the needy, being honest, being kind to others and by doing what is right. The Principal, Fr. Anthony Fonseca, finally addressed the gathering and through the exemplary lives of freedom fighters he encouraged students to follow a virtuous path that will eventually make life meaningful. The program was appreciated by one and all.
