A camp was organized at Don Bosco High School, for the scouts and guides of Std 10th on 11th October, 2024. Around hundred and eighty students participated in this camp that was held on the school ground. The theme of this camp was ‘Care for Creation’.
The event commenced with B.P exercises and asanas by the troops of Std 10th followed by the flag break, promise, flag song and prayer song by the Scouts and Guides.
Sir Lucas Lopes, the camp master, along with other activity teachers, assisted the students and trained them with the basic skills in campcraft, as in – proper use of wood tools, tying basic knots and simple lashing, pioneering projects and other innovative gadgets. They also learnt tent pitching. The students engaged in patrol corner decoration and preparation of dry snacks.
Dr. Aaron Bowen, MBBS, General Physician, educated the students on the principles of first aid, health and hygiene. It was an insightful session where students acquired great knowledge about personal hygiene and prevention of dreadful, contagious diseases.
The students engaged in a variety of competitions that showcased their creativity, including projects focused on upcycling materials, creating useful gadgets, and cooking delicious dishes. After lunch, they were instructed to get ready for the campfire.
The campfire event included activities designed to engage participants and promote teamwork. Various groups prepared skits highlighting the theme: “Care for Creation”, scout values and teamwork.
The vice-principal, Fr. Joaquim Fernandes, concluded the event with his message saying, “We should learn through the principles of Lord Baden Powell, to always lend a helping hand to those who need it.”
The event wrapped up with the award presentation for the top scout, girl guide, troupe leader and winners from the various competitions held throughout the day.
