PRAFULTA – SESSION FOR PARENTS

Don Bosco High School & Junior College, Naigaon (East), conducted a Wellness Session for the parents of students from Std V and VI, on 21st June, 2025. The session aimed at promoting holistic development and strengthening the parent-child relationship during the crucial pre-adolescent years.

The session focused on three major areas of concern that commonly arise during middle school years: Building self-esteem in children, handling bullying and, understanding and navigating puberty.

The resource person Mrs. Olivia Almeida, began by emphasizing the importance of nurturing self-esteem in children. Parents were guided on how their words, attitudes, and encouragement play a significant role in shaping a child’s confidence and self-worth. Strategies such as offering genuine praise, allowing children to make choices, and encouraging them to learn from their mistakes were discussed.

The second part of the session addressed the sensitive issue of bullying. Parents were educated on how to recognize the signs of a child being bullied or bullying others. The speaker emphasized the importance of open communication at home, encouraging children to speak up, and teaching empathy and kindness. Methods of conflict resolution and when to involve school authorities were also shared.

The final section of the session dealt with the topic of puberty, which can be a confusing and challenging phase for both children and parents. Parents were oriented on how to approach this subject with sensitivity and openness. The session highlighted the importance of age-appropriate conversations and fostering a safe environment where children feel comfortable discussing physical and emotional changes.

Overall, the session was well-received by the parents, who actively participated and shared their concerns and experiences. The school reiterated its commitment to partnering with parents to ensure the well-being and positive development of every child.
