Students from all sections of Don Bosco High School and Jr. College, Naigaon celebrated Diwali, the festival of lights, with great enthusiasm.
The theme – ‘Care for Creation’ focussed on celebrating the joys and traditions of Diwali while encouraging practices that protect and honour the environment.
This theme emphasized the connection between the spirit of Diwali—celebrating light, peace, and renewal—and our responsibility to protect the Earth and its ecosystems, as well as promoting peaceful, compassionate living.
The day began with a series of lively events and competitions, including the traditional Rangoli sketching and colouring contest, as well as contests for decorating earthen lamps and applying mehndi. The students used their fingers to craft intricate and colourful Rangoli patterns, believed to be a symbol of good luck and a shield against misfortune. They also painted and decorated diyas with beautiful designs, showcasing their artistic talents. In the mehndi competition, students created elaborate floral patterns, religious symbols, and other unique elements, each design adding its own charm and appeal.
The cultural program conducted by each section kicked off with a beautiful welcome dance performed by the children, followed by the traditional lamp-lighting ceremony. Before the festivities began, a solemn prayer ceremony was held to thank God for His guidance and seek His blessings. The children captivated the audience with skits and vibrant dances, infusing the celebration with energy and enthusiasm. In addition, the students, along with their class teachers, organized a pound party within their classrooms to promote charity and giving. As a gesture of goodwill, the school distributed boxes of traditional Indian sweets to all the students.
In line with the Diwali theme of “Care for Creation and Peace,” the Rector, Rev. Fr. Dominic Martis, spoke to the staff and students, highlighting the importance of using our inner light to overcome darkness. He encouraged all to embody qualities of kindness, love, generosity, peace, and a deep commitment to caring for the environment.
The students participated in the celebration with great enthusiasm and full-hearted energy, their radiant faces and colourful attire adding to the festive spirit. Overall, it was a joyful and memorable occasion. The festivities concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude for the successful celebration.
